I first discovered Nia in 2018 when a friend invited me to a Nia Freedance class at a gorgeous studio in San Antonio (Synergy). I was so nervous! Afterall I had never experienced dancing with mindful movement as the theme. I remember staying in one place and closing my eyes almost the entire class. Looking back on it now, I realize the meaningfulness behind this…

After that I started going to more and more classes, getting braver each time. Moving around the room more, keeping my eyes open. In the winter of 2019 I decided to get my first Nia certification- the White Belt- The Art of Sensation. It was truly a magnificent opportunity for some serious inner growth, though I still wasn’t ready to teach. When Covid hit, I stopped dancing. I don’t know why, maybe the stress of it all, the refusal that it was happening… Until…. My mother died. Instantly I knew- I need to dance! I felt it in my whole body, I dreamed about it, it was all I could think about. I signed up for another course- Nia Freedance, deciding it best to “restart” and go back to my roots. After completing the course, I had a new sense of purpose, a deeper understanding of my body, of my sensations. It was then I knew I should step into teaching. And so, here I am….
